On Tuesday September 26, during an award dinner at the Grand, Impact 100 Southern Indiana awarded a $50,000 grant to St. Elizabeth Catholic Charities. Over 150 people were in attendance to watch as the award was made during an evening that included a keynote address by Wendy Steele, who founded the first Impact 100 group in Cincinnati in 2001. St. Elizabeth Catholic Charities was one of three finalist organizations which also included The Center for Women and Families and Rauch, Inc.
The finalists were selected after submitting applications for funding, which were scored according to review criteria published in Impact 100 Southern Indiana’s 2017 Request for Proposals (also available for review at the group’s website: www.impact100si.org).
The review was completed using a panel review process with participation from members who gave financial contributions towards this year’s award. Each finalist listed above presented a seven minute overview of their proposed project and the members of Impact 100 Southern Indiana voted to give the award to the project proposed by St. Elizabeth Catholic Charities, a teaching kitchen to support job skill development in the women they serve and promote economic self-sufficiency.
This is Impact 100 Southern Indiana’s inaugural year and the group anticipates awarding a $100,000 grant next year, in 2018. Impact 100 Southern Indiana’s goal is to empower women to dramatically improve lives by collectively funding significant grants that make a lasting impact for women and children in Clark, Floyd, and Harrison counties in Southern Indiana.
This year’s $50,000 grant is made possible by the financial contributions of more than 75 women who joined as founding members of the Impact 100 Southern Indiana program in 2017. Impact 100 Southern Indiana will hold “meet and greet” events in fall 2017 and winter/spring 2018 to share with women in the community about the initiative and increase 2018 membership in support of the $100,000 award. Upcoming meet and greet dates will be listed on their website soon.
“We are thankful to the Women’s Foundation for the opportunity that they have offered by starting Impact 100 in Southern Indiana. As the recipient of the inaugural grant, we are honored that the members of Impact 100 entrusted St. Elizabeth’s to use their first year of funds to impact the women that we serve by helping them to break the cycle of poverty.” – Mark Casper, St. Elizabeth Catholic Charities Agency Director.
